Hispanics: How do you feel about non-native speakers speaking Spanish?

speaking spanish
Doliath asked:

How do you feel when non-native speakers of Spanish speak Spanish to you? Is it a sign of respect, or of gringo-ness? Does it depend on how well they speak it? Does it depend on the situation? Just wondering… thanks for your thoughts.
